Style Tip: Transitioning Dresses

Fall is peaking around the corner here in NYC and I am going to show you how to transition a cute, summer dress into the Fall season. I like to get more usage out of the clothes I buy and wear them throughout the year.

I am styling this dress I got from the Reformation summer sale. I got it for such a steal price, 70% off! I highly recommend shopping Reformation through their sales, which happens twice a year. They have similar dresses to the one I am wearing and this could be done with any strappy dress from any brand!

I am wearing the dress here for a summer date night. I paired it with sneakers to keep myself comfortable, but it can definitely be dressed up with heels. This dress is really nice for a warm evening. It is very breathable and comfortable, as there are no zippers or ties. It is just a nice, loose, slip dress.

Since the weather is cooling off a bit now into September, I find myself pairing this dress over a simple white t-shirt. This one is from Madewell. The t-shirt really makes the dress super casual and actually more comfortable for me since my shoulders are not exposed. This could also be a date night outfit, worn just around the city to hang out, or go to class.

For when the temperature drops to around 50-60 degrees F (this is chilly for me), you could throw on a light sweater. This one is from H&M. I picked a neutral grey, so the red in the flowers are still given attention. The sweater isn’t tucked-in in any way and I think that is okay because the silhouette of this dress is loose, so it matches. The sweater on top also makes the dress look like a skirt!

There are definitely more ways to style this dress, like with a denim jacket or a leather jacket and boots, but I wanted the clothing to interact with the dress a lot more besides just layering. I hope this gives some inspiration as to how to get more wear from your summer dresses!
