TWA Hotel

I was recently surprised by someone special to spend the night at the TWA Hotel! I had been trying to plan a day trip here for weeks but figuring out all of the logistics and what weekend would be best but once the surprise was out, I found out I was going to also spend the night! I was ecstatic! ๐Ÿ™‚

I took the subway and airport airtrain to get to JFK, it was way cheaper than Uber or Lyft! Once I was at terminal 5, you enter the building through this long tube, show in photos below. The actual hotel is located in the two buildings located right behind the TWA.

If you don’t know the history behind this terminal, it was designed by Eero Saarinen and was completed in 1962. It symbolizes a pinnacle point in architectural history of the 1960s and modern design. The entire facility is decorated with Knoll Furniture and Saarinen’s Tulip chairs and tables.

There are clothes from the flight attendants back then on display ranging from designers of Balmain, Ralph Lauren, and Valentino, etc. It was truly sublime to step inside this building. I learned about the TWA in undergrad in my architectural history class and I’ve wanted to visit ever since! It has been closed for many many years, but recently went into renovation and was reopened into a hotel this year.

To celebrate my time here, I decided to pair my outfits to the architecture and interior design. I went for drinks inside the historic Trans World Airline named Connie. I wore this beautiful red silk dress to match the iconic red logo of the TWA and the carpet!

The next day I woke up super early to take photos of the building with no people! I wore this modern white shirt dress to keep with this modern and minimal theme of the building. The building is actually super retro but there are so many details and parts of this building are minimal in detail!

Outfit 2: Massimo Dutti shirt dressย (similar) / Franco Sarto shoes / Mansur Gavriel bucket bag / Vera Meat earrings

I hope you enjoyed this small look inside the TWA. I have more on my instagram feed and in a highlight on my profile.
