LUCERNE

October 27 – 30

Hello Switzerland!

This country is full of beautiful landscapes and views for as far as your eyes can see.

Switzerland is also the most expensive country I have ever been in. To give you a hint as to how expensive, a meal at McDonald’s is 18 Swiss Franc, or $20 (US). In the US, McDonald’s meal is at most $7! Swiss cheese fondue was about $50. We stayed in Switzerland for about three days, so we had to budget our meals. My friends and I basically ate at Chinese/Korean/Vietnamese restaurants every night. And I will admit, it was some pretty good Asian food! I was satisfied with our meals, although we never got to eat authentic Swiss food because it was so outrageously priced. I feel like Switzerland is a country you go to if you have money lying around or are retired. It’s not so efficient for college students who don’t have money to go to. But enough about my money rant!

One our first day in Lucerne, we wondered around the historic town and visited some tourist attractions. We tried some Swiss chocolate and went to a chocolate museum to see how Lindt chocolate is produced. The next day we went up to visit Mount Rigi and swim in the Rigi Kaltbad mineral baths. This was probably the most amazing experience of my fall break. The Swiss Alps are so gorgeous and although we couldn’t see the beautiful view down to the lakes because of the clouds, we still had an amazing time. It was a wonderful feeling swimming in the warm baths and being outside in the cold, crisp air and looking at the beautiful mountain range. My friends and I stayed there for a few hours and then came back down around dusk to get more Asian food and macarons from Bachman.

We stayed in an Airbnb in the central part of new town, when ended up being right next to the main train station. Airbnb has been an amazing experience for me and my friends. It makes us feel at home and we really appreciate the hospitality of the hosts we have.

The day after, we left for Italy to head back to our center in Castiglion Fiorentino. It was a long day of travel, but I had many memories with me to reminisce on.

The next time I am in Switzerland, I want to visit the Therme Vals by Peter Zumthor and Lausanne.

That concludes my fall break. I am so thankful to have visited the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. I hope to visit new countries in the future.

Enjoy the photos!

xx
