September 7 & September 14
Ciao! I apologize for not updating as frequently as I said I would. The wi-fi here at the center is so horrible, I can barely access social media on my phone half of the time. Luckily, I’ve had some luck the past couple of days and was able to connect without any issues.
Here are some photos from my first and second trip to Florence and a brief description of each day.
The first trip to Florence (Sept 7) consisted of visiting many churches, including Santa Maria Novella, Santa Croce, walking through the Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery, and going to the Museo Galileo. My group and I received a tour of Florence and all the major monuments from our school guide. (As much as I appreciate the time they take to show us around, I would rather just be given a map and then explore by myself.) Overall, it was a very productive day, and I got to see many of the places I missed the first time I visited Florence in 2013.
The second trip to Florence (Sept 14) was mainly situated around the Duomo, or Santa Maria del Fiore. Oh my goodness… this church is probably on my top three list. It is so beautiful on the outside! The inside is more neutrally decorated, until you stand underneath the Duomo and admire the intricately painted scene of heaven and hell. We toured the Duomo museum and the Baptistry, then we were freed to explore the rest of Florence by ourselves. My friend, Rebekah, and I split to climb the Campanile Bell Tower and the Duomo to capture beautiful photos of the city. It was a beautiful day!
*If you are wondering why I am wearing chacos in the last picture, it is because my friend let me borrow them because I dropped a jar of jelly on my toe and completely destroyed it! I could barely walk the entire day while in Florence for our second trip. It was painful, but I made it through both climbs like a trooper! Definitely a memorable experience, except for the toe :-).
We will be visiting Florence three more times before study abroad is over, so I will definitely be posting more of this beautiful city so stay tuned!
