Today, I am finally posting my favorite makeup products that I have been using recentlly. I love makeup. Since I am artistic, I love to paint and this is just like painting, but on my face. Makeup creates so many different personalities and styles. I choose how I want my makeup to look that day based on how I feel. Whether you wear just mascara, or a full face of makeup (like me), it is always fun to play with different products and brands. I am not going to a makeup tutorial today, but if you guys would like one in the future, I can totally do that.
I like to prime my face before applying my foundation. I find that it helps the makeup stay on my skin longer. Since I have oily/combination skin, I use a matte primer. Becca’s Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector is my favorite because immediately upon applying, my skin is no longer shinny.
I use a liquid foundation because it covers areas of uneven skin color, red marks, etc. The Stufio Fix Fluid SPF 15 from MAC does the job for me. It also controls oil and creates a nice, even, and smooth matte finish that does not dry my face out. I am in between shades at the moment, so I mix NC15 and NC20 together before applying.
I also apply a foundation powder from MAC over to set my liquid foundation. I love using the Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium or Medium Golden. It has a soft sheen to the powder to give your face some dimension. My favorite thing about it that it does not make your skin look too matte and cakey.
For concealer, I use two different kinds from different brands. I have very dark under eye circles, so I have not been able to use just one product to conceal them. I find that using two works the best for me. My favorite is Studio Finish Concealer Duo in NC 20 / NC 25. The lighter pink tone goes on first to correct the dark color under the eye, then the yellow tone is applied on top of it to conceal the eye.
After, I apply NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla. I swipe the brush on the inner parts of my eye, down, then I brush it on the outer corner of my eye, out. This concealer reflects the light on your face and hides dark coloring. It is flat out amazing.
To set my concealers, I use It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro-Powder. This powder is glorious. It is so soft and so light on your skin. Plus, it also mattes oily skin! Sometimes, I use this powder to set my liquid foundation instead of a foundation powder.
The Bronzing Powder from MAC in matte bronze works well when I contour my face. I like to contour with powders ,rather than liquids, because I think the overall look is softer and not too harsh.
The MAC Mineralize Blush in warm soul goes perfectly with my skin tone. I have a yellowish tone to my skin, which means I can get really, really tan in the summer. But in the winter, when I am pale, my skin is a yellow-ish white. So this blush brings out warmer tones in my skin and the mineralize finish adds a soft sheen to my cheeks.
In addition to contouring, I also love to highlight. It is the trend these days, I think highlighter just makes anyone’s face look so gorgeous! (Not that they weren’t gorgeous before.) I will use either powder or cream highlighter, depending on the look I want to achieve. For powder, I love Mineralize Skinfinish (Highlighter) in Lightscapade, also in Soft & Gentle. Jaclyn Hill’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop x Becca Cosmetics. I’m sure anyone who loves makeup has heard of this and let me just tell you it is totally worth buying. It is a beautiful color, and it truly does go with any skintone. For cream, BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Moonstone is really gorgeous. Basically, all the BECCA and MAC highlighters and luminizers are wonderful, so you cannot really go wrong.
Eyes. My eyes are my favorite part of my face to do makeup. I have so many eyeshadows, it is ridiculous. MAC’s Extra Dimension Eye Shadow in Sea Worship, Eye Shadow in Woodwinked, Saddle, Expensive Pink, and All That Glitters are my go-to’s for an everyday look. The Wash & Dry Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow Trio in Permanent Press from MAC is also one of my favorites. To add more of a statement, these shadows can be applied with a damp brush, to give your eyes a glittery touch. Also, Lancôme has beautiful eye shadow palettes that are the perfect size for on the go or traveling. My favorite color combo is Color Design Eye Brightening 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Petal Pusher.
When the cat-eye trend became popular, I was rocking winged eyeliner every single day. I taught myself how to do the winged eyeliner in different kinds of styles. I love using different colors: brown, navy, mauve, and black. I usually keep my eyeshadow simple when I do winged eyeliner so it really stands out. My favorite eyeliner pen is from Smashbox. The Limitless Liquid Liner Pen in black or brown are perfect for any makeup look. It goes on smoothly and I have no issues correcting the liner, or re-applying it. For a pencil, I love MAC’s variety of colors. Recently, I have been obsessed with Wash & Dry Technakohl Liner in Sudsy. The navy blue brings out the blue in my eyes without being too overpowering.
When it comes to mascara, I always use at least two different kinds, one that lengthens and one that adds volume. The Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara in Black, BUXOM Lash Mascara, and Lancôme Grandiôse – Wide-Angle Fan Effect Mascara in Black are a must to have. Each of these mascaras has a slight effect, but each create voluminous, long, beautiful lashes. In particular, I get compliments every time I wear the Lancôme Grandiôse. Once you know how to work the brush, it will change your life. The Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumpling Serum is a very good eye lash primer. It separates the eye lashes, lengthens them, and plumps them (hence the name).
I am not really an eyebrow person because my eyebrows are already naturally dark and filled. So if I do anything, it is a light pencil and setting serum to keep my brows in place. I like Benefit Cosmetics Instant Brow Pencil in Medium to Dark and Benefit Cosmetics Speed Brow.
Brushes are the key to achieving a flawless makeup look. There are so many different kinds to choose from and different brushes that create certain textures. I always buy brushes from Real Techniques from Ulta. Every single brush they make is worth buying. I have almost all of them! The brushes from Morphe are worthing buying also. I only own one right now and it is amazing! The M439 Deluxe Buffer creates a beautiful finish when applying liquid foundation. The Pro Flawless Airbrush #56 from the Sephora Collection creates a similar effect as well.
To keep all of my brushes together, I have managed to organize them in this roll up bag available at Sephora.
Well, there you have it. This is probably a fourth of my growing makeup collection. I do throw out outdated and overused makeup. The only thing I really try to keep as long as possible is my eyeshadows.
I hope you enjoy makeup as much as I do!
For those who do not wear makeup, I applaud you! I think that is beautiful and wonderful and you should keep rocking it!
